An Unprecedented Civilizational Challenge

Humanity is facing a transformation of unprecedented magnitude. As algorithms increasingly shape military infrastructures, the margin for human deliberation shrinks. We face a systemic risk where our most powerful technical instruments escape human control.

"Artificial intelligence needs to be disarmed, freed from logics that turn it into an instrument of domination, exclusion and death... It must be at the service of all and of the common good."
— Pope Leo XIV

The Construction Site of History

Security can no longer be grounded in deterrence and fear, but in cooperation and human dignity. We cannot address these systemic risks solely through technical frameworks; we must shift from an economy of war to an economy of peace.

"Peace, not merely the absence of war, is justice at work... Let's not fear artificial intelligence but constantly keep the question of the human in play. No person can be left at the margins of digital transformation."

Towards the Rome Declaration

From July 14–16, 2026, Nobel Laureates, scientific experts, policy makers, and faith leaders will gather at the Borgo Laudato Si' in the Vatican. Together, they will work to draft the Rome Declaration on an Unarmed and Disarming Peace, establishing new digital protocols to govern AI in strategic and nuclear systems.
